Causes of Gangrene

There are several factors that may cause gangrene to occur on your body. Some of these include:
  • a crush injury(something heavy falls on you and stops blood flow to a part of the body).
  • a severe burn
  • frostbite.
  • any disease that affects blood circulation(arteriosclerosis, diabetes, smoking, or Raynaud's disease).
  • infection of wounds.

Now that you know the causes, you must know the symptoms. There are totally different symptoms for the two different types of gangrene you can get:

Dry Gangrene

If your skin goes through these steps, you may be developing dry gangrene:
  • The affected area becomes cold and numb.
  • Then, the affected area becomes red.
  • It then develops a brown discoloration.
  • Lastly, it becomes black and shriveled.

Wet Gangrene

If your skin goes through these steps, you may be developing wet gangrene:
  • The affected area becomes swollen and decays.
  • It is extremely painful.
  • Local oozing may start occuring.
  • It produces a foul smelling odor.
  • It becomes black.
  • You develop a fever.
